# Who the fuck is Till?! Till Janz is an innovatery image maker based in London who works in the intersection and dialogue between storytelling and technology. Growing up in Worms, Germany, a place he describes “as close to nowhere as a place can feel”, Till was bullied relentlessly at school and he dreamed of escaping to somewhere “new and big and exciting”. Technology, during this earlier and difficult time, “presented the best possible tool for escapism and generally avoiding reality,” he recalls, and his computers, the first of which was a Commodore 64, provided a means for young Till to imagine a better future for himself. His present work uses a blend of cutting edge technology, including 3D scanning, lidar data, CGI, Ai and VR. Through these fascinating contemporary methodologies, Till always pushes the boundaries of what photography is and how it can find it’s unique representation in the metaverse. click the logos below:

Generations is an ongoing portrait project which Till has been working on for over a year, and which will be released in its entirety in Spring 2022. The project will involve over 122 portraits of different individuals reflecting the wide diversity of contemporary culture. The images are concerned with exploring the idea of age and identity in the context of fashion, social media, and new technology and the impact they have on self perception. So the question being considered here is: “Who would you be if you lived at the same time but in a different age group. What if you were reading this now but you were an elderly person or if you were a teenager at the beginning of your life. How would you look? How would you live? Who would you be?” Each portrait is made of 3 individual photographs which are then digitally manipulated and macaulay crafted to represent the past, the present and the future of the individual in the series. Wallpaper is showcasing the first in the series which is available as an NFT on Superare from today, depicting a portrait of the artist himself. This NFT comes with a unique physical art print using lenticular technology, which makes the image come alive.

The constant dialogue with Till and his imaginary alter ego has informed a lot of his art practice in recent times. All 7 images are reflections of this constant activity and dialogue with Hugo locked together in his head. For these art pieces Till went from behind the camera to acting out this ever closer relationship in the mundane and strange interactions of their everyday living. Visualising the existence of Hugo sets up an aesthetic of possibility and contradiction.

# Hugo, you Arthole! The series is concerned with the idea of Till’s alter ego called Hugo.Arthole. Till and Hugo co exist in Till´s mind, playing out the complexities of living with a digital doppelganger. This is not Jeckell and Hyde but more an imaginary search for the kind of character it might be possible to be in the digital world. Being Hugo has become an absorbing and dynamic art practice for Till and his place in the world and became an extension of his own personality: Till always wants to be likeable and would respond naively to someone in the business world, whereas Hugo doesn’t give a fuck and tears them to shreds. Till has created 7 art pieces for Wallpaper magazine altogether, of which one is the cover featuring Hugo and the artist himself and is available as an NFT on Superrare from today!
